And another Tim Robbins to boot. I don’t know his poetry so well but have read most of his novels, Still Life with Woodpecker being my favourite.
Ah, yes, Still Life with a Woodpecker was my introduction into the world of Mr Robbins- in 2009 if I remember correctly. Earlier this year a friend said I could borrow some of her Tom Robbins books, because our library and local book stores didn’t have him in stock. I was so excited, she send 4 of his books. His book/novel “Villa Incognito” served as inspiration for the title of my solo show: Incognito, currently showing. I love these snippets of poetry found in the book, and the gallery said they will put a verse on the wall as well. So spoiler alert…some more Tom Robbins quotes to follow 😉 In the meantime I am looking for something else to read…any suggestions? or introductions to another author would be welcome too.
Uhm – nothing comes to mind right now who writes in a similar vein as Robbins. A quick squizz on my bookshelf revealed The Pumpkin Eater by Penelope Mortimer and ‘n Gelyke Kans – Jeanne Goosen. The latter an Afrikaans writer. Have you ever read Gertrude Stein?
These suggestions are great! I’ve googled the Pumpkin Eater, and will sure be on the lookout for the book. I’ve read some things by Jeanne Goosen before. but not the one you suggest yet. (Haar kortverhaalbundel : Plante kan praat- wat ek nou raakgesien het op die internet lyk ook belowend) I must admit that I haven’t read anything by Gertrude Stein yet. I’ll be on the lookout for her book “The Autobiography of Alice B Toklas. ” Ah and wikipedia just told me that 2 quotes from her work became widely known …I like this one: “A rose is a rose is a rose is a rose…” Thank you for these suggestions! x
The entire Gertrude Stein collection is available for download! I forget which site. Try Project Gutenberg Project. Or http://onlinebooks.library.upenn.edu/ – die laasgenoemde het nie die Autobiography nie maar die ander titlels het ek almal gelees en dis fantasties. Tender Buttons is beautiful. These two sites I find the best for downloads. They have zillions of titles, old classics – stuff where copyright lapsed.
Fantastic! WOW! Thank you so much for the link. I will definitely have a look! xxx
The black and white patchwork is such a good background for the blooms. Lovely! (K)
Thanks Kerfe,
Yes I have a soft spot for these blooms, but some gardeners reckon that Black-eyed Suzies are a nuisance 😉
I have fond memories of them growing along the roads of my childhood.
brilliant show. so good to see you work ‘in the flesh’
Thank you for visiting the show at the gallery Jane, and for telling me about it. So exciting to be showing in Australia. I saw some snippets of how MContemporary installed the show, and must say, I am very pleased. Nice to ‘virtually’ meet you. xxx
