Detail of “What’s love got to do with it? (detail in progress shot)

I don’t know about you, but whenever I read the words “What’s love got to do with it?” I cannot help but think of Tina Turner singing it. πŸ˜‰

“What’s love got to do with it?” 2021 Thread, rubber and photographic print on board (842 x 1190 mm)

Above is a new piece for my upcoming solo exhibition at MContemporary in July 2022.

I decided to post this images cause it seems fitting πŸ˜‰ #valentines2022

Personally we don’t celebrate it – but am very aware of this day (even from a young age), I could never see the point because almost every day for me is valentines day and mothers-day and all those type of days (thanks to my boys) and sometimes I receive unexpected gifts, of which the original of this photograph was one. (Thank you Johan Jaco Steyn)

It is also the last chance to catch the group exhibition: Phantasmagoria at RKContemporay gallery situated in Riebeeck-Kasteel (running until the 27th of Feb.) in which you can view the original photograph as seen above reworked to tell another story:

Back to the original thought…

What is love?

Robert Frost Reckons that “Love is the irresistible desire to be irresistibly desired”.

I love that quote πŸ˜‰

Original Cabinet Card (personal collection)

With that said, I am looking forward to go to the studio next week. Besides working on a couple of exciting projects I also want to start working on…

something irresistible πŸ˜‰

On that note…
