I hope you all had a wonderful weekend. I cannot believe we are almost in August already! Although I must admit that we only had a couple of cold days in the middle of winter. It definitely feels as if the world is getting warmer, and we have to learn how to play with fire.

The original photographed used for this work comes from my own archives. It is a photograph featuring my mom and her netball/korfball team. (I’m never sure which, because she played both games – and they are apparently very similar. Blast from the past 😉

I am also wondering what is the difference between a ‘braai’ and a ‘barbecue’ Is it a cultural?
According to my friend ‘Google”: “The main difference between a braai and a BBQ has to be the fire”
oh and if you are not familliar with the word braai: “The word braai, which comes from the Dutch braden, meaning ‘to grill’, is an abbreviation of braaivleis meaning ‘grilled meat’.
I really do hope that we all won’t end up as grilled meat by the year 2050! (touch wood 😉

Playing with fire is now on view at the Gallery MContemporary in Sydney Australia. For more info feel free to email louise@mcontemp.com
