Flashback Friday= opening night: Grimm Needle

Art portfolio- my work

The Grimm Needle exhibition at Fried Contemporary Gallery close tomorrow.

It is with fond memories that I revisit the opening night on this “Flashback Friday”….

During the evening everyone who attended the opening were asked to write their names and telephone numbers on a piece of paper and put it in one of Johan Thom’s hats. Later in the evening Mika Thom the owner of the gallery drew one name from that hat…

The one’s whose name were drawn received this piece below, which I especially made for this event (in this case Sarel Petrus received it- who is a fellow artist whom I have never met until that evening and whose solo exhibition is up next at this gallery!)

Thank you to friends, colleagues and everyone who visited my exhibition (in the flesh or via the web) and to the patrons who are taking some work home with them.  To those of you (you know who you are) who helped, listened, talked, supported and pampered me before and after the show…a heartfelt thank you.

Studio news

The Hotel I used to work at, didn’t have a room with the number 13. I also heard that some buildings don’t have a 13th floor. It goes straight from 12 to 14.

I like 13. It was my birthday on the 13th of August and so much awesomeness happened recently that I would like to share it with you.

On the 12th of August the crew from the TV show “Mooiloop” visited our beautiful town Stilbaai and my studio:

Thank you Stilbaai.me for telling them about my work!

What an interesting experience…it felt quite surreal!

Afterwards we were off to Witsand for the weekend. That was my birthday present from my dad:

The morning of the 13th I woke up with the sight of wales playing in the ocean, and our boys gave me gifts they picked up on the beach. In the afternoon we went fishing

and enjoyed a picnic.

I wish I could translate my happiness into words!

On our way back home the next day we stopped at the “Blue Crane Farmshop”  . We thoroughly enjoyed their hospitality and amazing coffee…I was admiring their collection of vintage dolls….and then suddenly Philippa, who greeted us at the door when we arrived, gave me the most beautiful baby doll as a gift! (without even knowing that it was my birthday the previous day)

What an amazing, warm-hearted lovely gesture….

I am filled with so much gratitude! Thank you to dearest friends for their support and my loving family and meeting new acquaintances with warm hearts.

I salute you x

Decisions – decisions

Art portfolio- my work

I have always been a bit indecisive, until I had children and had to make some choices for others, quickly and sometimes under unpredictable circumstances.

I mentioned here that I will give away a giraffe- all you had to do is leave a comment.  Either nobody wanted a giraffe made out of inner tube or nobody likes to leave a comments.

At least there was one comment- so little giraffe has found a new home and I came to the conclusion that the less options one has to choose from the easier it is to make a decision.

Dear Avalon thank you for your interest and participation. Please e-mail me your postal details to : hannalie.t@gmail.com.  I will post it to you on 27 December 2012.

Have a lovely festive season.

happiness is…..

Art portfolio- my work

happiness is receiving this book:

from a friend who lives half way across the globe and travels a lot.  We studied and lived together in a commune back when we were students.  I miss having long conversations with her (kitchen philosophy).  Luckily she wrote a note accompanying the book!

It feels like Christmas is early this year!

If you want to know more about the book visit here.

I can’t wait to start reading.

Have you read it?
