2024 “Eudaimonia” (solo exhibition)

Eudaimonia translates to a contented state of being happy, healthy and prosperous. If happiness is so important, the question becomes, how do we lure it into our lives?

When you look up the term, you’ll find more than dozen synonyms, demonstrating how complex and nuanced the experience can be, but non volunteers a way for us to be happy.

This is the domain of philosophy, which despite its stuffy reputation, was conceived to help us live better lives. One such philosophy is Greek eudaimonism, a ‘moral philosophy that defines right action as that which leads to the ‘well-being’ of the individual.

This idea of contented well-being as simply a by-product of personal industry is a recurring theme in a variety of philosophical traditions around the world.

In other words, , happiness is the result of our actions directed toward other goals.

If happiness is the result of our actions then we need to stop asking ourselves how to be happy, rather we should be asking ourselves just ‘how to be’.

There is this Japanese word for the secret of happiness: ‘Ikigai’. Your ‘Ikigai’ is at the intersection of what you are good at and what you love doing.
