To all the ‘girls’ I’ve loved before

Art portfolio- my work, Studio news/blog

In celebration of Labour day – Workers day (South Africa) to day:

“I do, I undo, I redo” Louise Bourgeois (quote of the day):

Through the years, this is what I did and undid with some of my works over the years, for example these works featured below. They no longer exist except in my memory, in all the hours I spent with them and luckily in images I found on my computer.

I kind of miss them, but I have an appetite for destruction (which is also the name of the album of on of my favourite band G’nR- by the way), but instead I dedicate this song (which popped into my head while I was thinking about this on Labour day/Workers day:

“To all the girls I’ve loved before, who traveled into and out of my door, I’m glad they came along, I dedicate this song to all the girls I’ve loved before”…. (from a song by Julio Iglesias

You can catch my work ‘Size Matters” graciously on loan from the collector (Mike Spittal) in the exhibition: Mooi Nooi – Sculpting Identity curated by Karolien van Zyl. The exhibition is currently on view at the Origins Centre Museum in Johannesburg, South Africa until the 1st of March 2025. Herewith some installation images courtesy of the curator and the museum:

Kunstmütze (translation: Art Hat)

Studio news

One great thing about having a website is that sometimes one receive a wonderful message via the website like I did last week!

I received an email from the director and initiator of the Kunstmütze in Basel. (https://www.kunstmuetze.ch/ ) She is an educator and works mainly with children. She wanted to let me know that the art project in the Muttenz library (Switzerland) has begun. She introduces different artists and their way of working to her class, and then they (the children) can work freely according to their ideas. This time she introduced children from ages 6-12 to my work! And then she sent me some images of their creations which I adore and would like to share with you!

Thank you so much for sharing my work with the youth. I loved seeing what they came up with and it is a huge honour to be introduced as inspiration to young ones!
